Atomic Backland FR

While the Backland FR is designed with touring efficiency in mind, its construction makes it a capable resort ski for powder days. The Dura Cap sidewalls provide enough edge hold for groomed runs, though it will feel most at home in soft snow and off-piste terrain.

The HRZN 3D tip is beveled to reduce swing weight, which makes the ski feel significantly more nimble when you are navigating tight trees or making quick adjustments. It also helps the ski plane on top of deep snow rather than diving, improving overall flotation.

The Backland FR is built primarily for soft snow performance. While the Dura Cap sidewalls offer decent edge grip, the lightweight wood core and powder-focused rocker profile mean it won't have the same damp, planted feel on hardpack as a dedicated frontside carving ski.

This ski is ideal for intermediate to advanced skiers who prioritize powder performance and agility. It is a great choice if you want a versatile setup that is light enough for occasional touring but still substantial enough for aggressive freeride lines.

At 1460g per ski (for the 167cm length), the Backland FR is notably lightweight. This makes it much easier to maneuver on long days or during uphill climbs compared to traditional, heavier metal-laminate freeride skis.
