Atomic Backland

While the Backland is optimized for backcountry touring due to its lightweight construction and skinning efficiency, it performs well in-bounds on deep powder days. However, its lightweight build may feel less damp and stable than a dedicated resort ski when you encounter hard-packed or icy groomers.

The 117mm waist is designed specifically for deep snow, providing significant surface area for float and effortless planing in powder. While this width excels in soft conditions, it will feel slower edge-to-edge on firm snow compared to narrower, resort-oriented skis.

HRZN Tech creates a boat-hull shape in the tip of the ski, which increases surface area by 10% without adding swing weight. This helps the ski rise above the snow rather than plowing through it, resulting in better float and more predictable handling in deep, variable conditions.

At 1870g per ski (184cm), the Backland balances stability with weight efficiency. It is light enough for long backcountry tours, but if you are strictly focused on ultralight uphill speed, there are lighter dedicated mountaineering skis available.

The rocker in the tip and tail provides the necessary float in powder and makes turn initiation easier, while the camber underfoot offers reliable edge grip and stability. This combination makes the ski versatile enough to handle steep, technical lines and soft, open bowls with confidence.
