Soil blocks eliminate the need for plastic containers and promote 'air pruning.' As roots reach the edge of the block, they stop growing outward and instead branch out, creating a stronger, healthier root system that prevents transplant shock.

While you can technically use it for any seed, the 4-inch block is designed for larger seeds like squash, melons, and cucumbers, or for 'potting on' seedlings that have outgrown smaller starter cells. For tiny seeds, you would typically start them in a smaller block first and then transplant them into this larger 4-inch block.

You need a soil-less mix that contains peat or coir, perlite, and compost. The mix must be damp enough to hold its shape when compressed, but not so wet that it turns into mud.

The depression-maker creates a small indentation in the center of your 4-inch block. This is designed to perfectly accommodate a smaller soil block, allowing you to easily transplant a seedling from a smaller starter cell into the larger block without disturbing the roots.

It is built from zinc-coated, solid steel, which makes it highly resistant to rust and wear. It is a heavy-duty tool designed to last for many seasons of intensive gardening.
