The Rekon Race is primarily designed as a rear tire for cross-country racing because of its fast-rolling, semi-slick profile. While some riders use it on both wheels for maximum speed on hardpack, most prefer pairing it with a more aggressive tire like the Maxxis Rekon or Ardent Race on the front for better steering traction.

The EXO protection provides a solid layer of cut and abrasion resistance that is sufficient for most cross-country and light trail riding. However, if you frequently ride in areas with extremely sharp, jagged rocks, you might find it less robust than Maxxis's heavier DoubleDown or DoubleDown casing options.

While this tire is specifically engineered as 'Tubeless Ready' to perform best with sealant and lower pressures, it is fully compatible with standard inner tubes. You can install it with a tube just like a traditional tire if you prefer not to use a tubeless setup.

The 120 TPI (threads per inch) casing is supple and lightweight, which helps the tire conform to the terrain for better grip and a smoother ride feel. This high thread count contributes to the tire's speed and efficiency, though it is slightly less puncture-resistant than lower TPI casings with thicker rubber.

The Rekon Race is optimized for intermediate, loose-over-hard, and dry conditions. Because it features a low-profile, semi-slick tread, it is not designed to shed mud effectively and will struggle to find grip in wet, sloppy, or deep mud.
