The ShieldWall casing is designed to balance weight and protection, offering a reliable layer of puncture resistance for cross-country racing. However, if you frequently ride sharp, jagged rock gardens, you might prefer a tire with a more robust sidewall reinforcement.

While it is engineered as a tubeless-ready tire, you can certainly use it with inner tubes. That said, running it tubeless is highly recommended to take full advantage of the lower tire pressures, which significantly improve traction and ride quality.

The larger volume provides a noticeable amount of natural self-damping, which helps absorb small trail chatter and vibrations. This creates a smoother, more comfortable ride, especially on longer marathon-distance events where fatigue can set in.
