Magnepan 1.7x

The 1.7x is an evolution of the 1.7i, featuring a completely overhauled crossover network. It incorporates higher-quality polypropylene capacitors, air-core coils, and upgraded solid copper wiring, all of which contribute to lower distortion and improved signal integrity.

Because these are 4-ohm speakers with a sensitivity of 86dB, they perform best with a high-current amplifier that can handle lower impedance loads comfortably. You will want an amp that remains stable at 4 ohms to fully realize the speaker's dynamic potential.

While the 1.7x stands 65 inches tall, its dipole design radiates sound from both the front and back, which creates a spacious soundstage that can work well in medium-sized rooms. However, you will need to position them a few feet away from the front wall to allow that rear radiation to develop properly.

With a frequency response down to 40Hz, the 1.7x provides a satisfying, full-range sound for most music genres. If you are a dedicated bass enthusiast or use them in a home theater setup, you might consider adding a subwoofer, but many listeners find the natural, fast bass of the quasi-ribbon panels sufficient on its own.
