Chris King NoThreadSet Headset

This is an external cup (EC34) headset designed specifically for bikes with a 34mm headtube inner diameter and a 1-1/8 inch threadless steerer tube. Please verify your frame's measurements before purchasing, as it will not fit tapered or integrated headtube designs.

Unlike standard cartridge bearings that are replaced when they wear out, Chris King uses proprietary, heat-treated surgical steel races that are machined in-house. These bearings are designed to burnish and actually become smoother over time, and they are fully serviceable if you ever need to clean or grease them.

The GripLock is a patented retention system that isolates the steerer tube from the headset bearings. It ensures a secure, reliable adjustment that prevents the headset from loosening during rides, which is a common issue with simpler designs.

While it is possible to install this headset at home, it requires a professional-grade headset press to ensure the cups are seated perfectly square into the frame. If you do not have the proper tools, we strongly recommend having a local bike shop perform the installation to avoid damaging your frame or the headset.

Because the design is fully serviceable, you can clean and re-grease the bearings periodically to extend their lifespan indefinitely. Chris King provides specific service instructions, and with basic tools, you can keep the headset performing like new for years.
