You should use standard silica sand specifically graded for pool filtration. Avoid using play sand or beach sand, as these contain impurities and particles that are too fine, which can clog the system or pass through the filter.

Under normal operating conditions, the silica sand typically lasts between three to five years. You will know it is time to replace it when you notice the water clarity decreasing or the pressure gauge consistently reading higher than normal despite regular backwashing.

It is designed to simplify maintenance compared to cartridge filters. You will primarily need to perform periodic backwashing to clear trapped debris from the sand, which is a straightforward process that keeps the system running efficiently.

While the pump is built for durability, it is generally recommended to run it for 8 to 12 hours a day to circulate the entire volume of your pool water. Running it constantly is usually unnecessary and will increase your electricity usage.
