Logee's Cotton Plant

This plant thrives in containers, making it an excellent choice for patios or balconies. Given its 2-3 foot size, a standard pot is sufficient, provided you maintain consistent watering and feeding throughout the growing season.

Zone 10 indicates this plant is tropical and cannot tolerate frost or freezing temperatures. If you live in a cooler climate, you must treat it as an annual or bring it indoors before the first frost, ensuring it stays in a warm spot above 60°F.

Full sun is non-negotiable for the Black Cotton Plant. To achieve and maintain that signature deep purple-to-black foliage, it requires at least 6 to 8 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight daily.

No special technique is required. Simply allow the flowers to bloom and mature into the purple cotton bolls; once they dry and split open, the fluffy white cotton will emerge naturally and can be harvested for arrangements.
