JBL Synthesis HDI-1600

The HDI-1600 is rated for 150W to 200W of recommended amplifier power. Because they have a nominal impedance of 4 Ohms and a sensitivity of 85dB, they perform best with a high-quality amplifier that can handle lower impedance loads comfortably to ensure the bass remains controlled and dynamic.

These speakers feature a rear-firing bass-reflex port, which means they require some breathing room to function correctly. Placing them too close to a wall can cause the bass to become boomy or muddy, so we recommend leaving at least 6 to 12 inches of space behind them for the best sound balance.

The HDI-1600 uses a 1-inch Teonex compression driver paired with a patented waveguide, which is a professional-grade design. This setup offers much more precise control over high-frequency dispersion and detail than a typical soft-dome tweeter, resulting in a wider, more consistent soundstage.

They are excellent for both. While they excel at accurate music reproduction, their high power handling and controlled directivity make them highly effective as main speakers in a home theater system or as surround channels in a larger JBL Synthesis setup.

With a frequency response down to 40Hz, these speakers provide impressive bass for their size. However, if you are using them in a larger room or for home theater applications where deep cinematic impact is required, adding a dedicated subwoofer will help fill in the lowest frequencies.
