As a mature, blooming-size specimen, this plant is physiologically ready to flower. However, bloom timing depends on your specific indoor environment and the plant's natural seasonal cycle. You can expect flowers when the plant completes its next growth cycle, provided it receives adequate light and proper care.

Cattleyas require bright, indirect light to bloom successfully. A south- or east-facing window is usually ideal, but be careful to avoid harsh, direct midday sun, which can scorch the leaves. If your leaves are a dark, grassy green, the plant likely needs more light; aim for a medium-green color.

Water only when the potting medium is nearly dry to the touch. Because these orchids are potted in well-draining media, you should water thoroughly until it runs out the bottom of the pot, then ensure it is never left sitting in standing water, which can cause root rot.

While it is a classic choice, the Cattleya alliance requires a bit more attention to light and humidity than easier orchids like Phalaenopsis. If you are comfortable monitoring moisture levels and can provide bright light, it is a rewarding plant to grow, but it is not a 'set it and forget it' houseplant.

Cattleyas are epiphytes and need excellent airflow around their roots. Use a coarse, well-draining orchid bark mix specifically formulated for epiphytic orchids. Avoid standard potting soil, as it will retain too much moisture and suffocate the root system.
