While these irises thrive in moist, boggy soil, they are adaptable. You can plant them in standard garden beds as long as you provide consistent watering to keep the soil damp, especially during the growing season.

Bare-root plants arrive without soil around their roots, which is a standard, healthy way to ship dormant perennials. Upon arrival, soak the roots in lukewarm water for a few hours to rehydrate them before planting, and ensure you get them into the ground promptly.

As with many bare-root perennials, the first year is primarily focused on establishing a strong root system. You may see some foliage growth immediately, but it is common for the plants to wait until the second season to produce their full, vibrant display of blooms.

Siberian irises are generally considered resistant to deer and rabbits, as the foliage is tougher and less palatable than many other garden perennials. While no plant is entirely immune to hungry wildlife, these are a reliable choice for gardens prone to browsing.

To allow for proper airflow and root expansion, space the plants about 18 to 24 inches apart. This spacing ensures they have enough room to mature into healthy, full clumps over the coming years.
