While it is a hardy perennial often used in outdoor rock gardens, it can thrive indoors if placed in a spot with very bright, direct sunlight. Without enough light, the rosettes may stretch and lose their compact, heart-shaped form.

Since this variety has a mat-forming growth habit and reaches a spread of about 18 inches at maturity, give each rosette a few inches of breathing room. They will eventually produce offsets—the 'chicks'—that fill in the gaps to create a dense, carpet-like appearance.

As a drought-tolerant succulent, it prefers a 'soak and dry' approach. Water thoroughly only when the soil has completely dried out, and be careful not to let the plant sit in water, as this can lead to root rot.
