Yusen Tokoname Kyusu Teapot

This teapot is made from high-quality Tokoname clay, which is porous and absorbs the essential oils of the tea leaves over time. With regular use, the pot becomes 'seasoned,' subtly enhancing the flavor profile and aroma of the specific type of tea you brew in it.

Because the clay absorbs flavors, it is best to dedicate this teapot to one specific category of tea, such as Japanese green teas or oolongs. Using it for vastly different teas—like a heavily scented jasmine and a delicate sencha—may cause the flavors to mingle in an undesirable way.

Simply rinse the teapot with hot water immediately after use and allow it to air dry completely with the lid off. Avoid using soap or detergents, as the porous clay will absorb the chemicals and taint the flavor of your future brews.

The 230ml capacity is designed primarily for individual service or intimate tea sessions for two. It is perfect for multiple short infusions of high-quality loose-leaf tea, which is the traditional way to enjoy Japanese green tea.
