While this variety is versatile enough to handle full sun, it typically performs best in partial shade. In hotter climates, afternoon shade is essential to prevent the leaves from scorching and to keep the colors vibrant.

Regularly pinching back the stem tips is the secret to a lush, compact shape. Simply snip off the top set of leaves on a stem once it reaches your desired height, which encourages the plant to branch out rather than growing tall and sparse.

It is an excellent choice for containers. Because it stays relatively compact at 12 to 24 inches, it works beautifully in pots on a patio or as a colorful accent in mixed container arrangements.
