Yes, the ceramic mechanism is designed to handle salt, pepper, whole spices, and even coffee beans. However, because the mechanism retains the oils and flavors of what you grind, we recommend dedicating one mill to a specific spice to avoid flavor cross-contamination.

Since the mill is finished with food-safe walnut oil and wax, it should not be submerged in water or put in the dishwasher. Simply wipe the exterior with a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately; you can occasionally re-condition the wood with a food-safe mineral oil or wax to maintain its luster.

The Pare Column Salt Mill provides a consistent, medium-fine grind suitable for general table use. It does not feature an external adjustment knob for varying grind coarseness.

Ceramic is non-corrosive, which is essential when grinding salt, as salt can cause metal mechanisms to rust over time. It is also highly durable and maintains its sharpness through years of regular use.

Because each piece is individually hand-turned from solid oak, you should expect slight variations in the wood grain and finish. This natural variance is part of the charm and ensures that your mill is a unique, one-of-a-kind object.
