While many rhododendrons are prized solely for their blooms, this hybrid is a standout for its foliage. It features unique, lightly felted leaves that shift from dark brown to crimson, providing visual interest throughout the year even when the plant isn't in flower.

It is exceptionally hardy for a rhododendron, capable of withstanding temperatures as low as -25°F. For the best results in extreme cold, plant it in a location protected from harsh windchill.

The Northern Starburst thrives best in partial shade. While it can tolerate full sun, providing some afternoon shade will help protect the foliage and keep the plant healthier in warmer climates.

Plan for a mature size of approximately four feet in both height and spread. Because it maintains a compact, medium-sized habit, it works well as a foundation planting or in mixed borders where space is somewhat limited.
