A bipolar design uses drivers on both sides of the speaker to radiate sound in two directions simultaneously. This creates a diffuse, enveloping sound field that makes it harder to pinpoint the exact location of the speaker, which is ideal for creating a seamless, immersive surround effect in movies.

These are specifically engineered as surround speakers for multi-channel home theater systems. While they can produce sound, their bipolar radiation pattern is designed to disperse audio widely rather than focus it, so they are not recommended for critical stereo music listening.

The SR900 includes a dedicated Polyfix wall-mounting system, which is designed to hold the speaker securely and flush against the wall. Because of its slim profile, the mounting system ensures the speaker remains stable without protruding too far into your room.

With a sensitivity of 90 dB and a recommended amplifier power range of 25 to 120 watts, these speakers are relatively efficient. Most standard home theater receivers will power them comfortably without needing a separate, high-powered external amplifier.

Focal uses flax fibers because they are naturally light, rigid, and well-damped. This results in a very natural, textured midrange and tight bass response that avoids the harsh coloration sometimes found in synthetic speaker cones.

At 12.35 lbs, these speakers are relatively lightweight for their performance class. However, you should always ensure the Polyfix mount is anchored properly into a stud or uses appropriate heavy-duty wall anchors to guarantee long-term stability.
