The self-watering system allows the plant to draw moisture from a reservoir at the base as needed, which helps prevent overwatering. You simply fill the reservoir, and the plant absorbs water through capillary action, making it a great set-it-and-forget-it feature for busy plant owners.

It doesn't strictly require one, but it will thrive if given the chance to climb. You can train it up a moss pole or trellis to encourage larger, more mature leaves, or let it trail naturally from a shelf if you prefer a cascading look.

Medium light means the plant should be placed in a spot that receives bright, indirect sunlight, such as near an east-facing window or a few feet back from a south- or west-facing window. Avoid placing it in direct, harsh sun, which can scorch the textured leaves.

The Monstera Peru is quite manageable and generally considered beginner-friendly. It is less fussy than some of the larger, more delicate varieties, provided you let the soil dry out slightly between waterings and keep it in a spot with consistent, indirect light.

While the guideline is weekly, it is best to check the soil moisture first. Stick your finger about an inch into the soil; if it feels dry, it is time to water. Because of the self-watering pot, you will find you need to water less frequently than with standard containers.
