A tissue culture starter is a young plant grown in a sterile laboratory environment on a nutrient-rich gel medium. It is essentially a clone of the parent plant, providing a way to acquire rare genetics at a younger, more affordable stage of development.

You must gently rinse all traces of the agar gel from the roots using lukewarm water to prevent fungal growth. Once clean, plant it in a small pot with a high-quality, airy substrate like sphagnum moss or a chunky aroid mix, and keep it in a high-humidity environment while it establishes.

This specimen is best suited for experienced collectors or those comfortable with propagation. Tissue cultures are delicate and require specific environmental controls, particularly regarding humidity and light, to successfully acclimate to a home setting.

This plant thrives in high humidity, ideally between 50% and 80%. Using a humidity dome, cloche, or a dedicated grow cabinet during the acclimation phase is highly recommended to ensure the plant doesn't dry out while its root system matures.

Place the plant in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sun, which can scorch the delicate leaves of a young tissue culture, but ensure it receives enough light to support steady, healthy growth.

Start small. Use a pot that is 3 inches or smaller to avoid overwatering, as a large volume of soil will hold too much moisture for the plant's limited root system to absorb.
