While not strictly required, a bottomless portafilter is highly recommended. The 28mm height of the VST basket often exceeds the clearance available in standard spouted portafilters, which can cause the basket to bottom out.

VST baskets are manufactured with significantly tighter tolerances and precision-engineered hole patterns. This ensures more uniform water flow through the coffee puck, which helps reduce channeling and leads to more consistent extractions.

The basket is optimized for a range of 21–23 grams. You can adjust your dose within this window to suit your specific roast and flavor preferences, provided your grind size is dialed in accordingly.
