Sunlight breaks down chlorine rapidly, causing you to lose sanitizer faster than it can clean your water. This stabilizer acts as a shield, preventing UV rays from degrading your chlorine so it stays active and effective for longer.

The most effective way to apply this is by slowly pouring it into your pool's skimmer while the pump is running. This allows the granules to dissolve completely in the filtration system rather than settling on the pool floor, which could potentially stain surfaces.

You should aim to maintain a level of 40 ppm (parts per million). This concentration provides the necessary protection against UV degradation without over-stabilizing your water, which can actually make your chlorine less effective.

Cyanuric acid is slightly acidic, so adding it to your pool may cause a minor drop in your pH and total alkalinity levels. It is good practice to test your water chemistry and make any necessary adjustments to your pH balance shortly after the stabilizer has fully dissolved.

You should test your cyanuric acid levels at the beginning of the swimming season and then once a month throughout the summer. Because stabilizer does not evaporate or break down easily, you generally only need to add more when you drain and refill water or after heavy rainfall.
