Acrylic scrapers are transparent, which allows you to see the cake surface through the tool as you work. This visibility makes it much easier to spot air pockets or uneven spots in your buttercream without stopping to check.

We recommend hand washing these acrylic scrapers with warm, soapy water. High-heat dishwasher cycles can cause the acrylic to warp or develop micro-cracks over time, which compromises the sharp edge needed for a smooth finish.

While the acrylic is durable, it is rigid. Avoid dropping the scrapers on hard surfaces like granite or tile countertops, and store them flat or in a protective sleeve rather than tossing them loosely into a drawer with other metal tools.

The 3/16-inch thickness is actually an advantage for stability. It provides enough rigidity to prevent the scraper from flexing while you apply pressure, ensuring you get a perfectly straight, vertical edge on your cake sides.

You can, but it requires a steady hand. For taller cakes, it is best to smooth the cake in sections or use the largest scraper to create a base level, then carefully blend the seams. However, for the cleanest results, we recommend using a scraper that matches or exceeds the height of your cake tiers.
