Great Basin Seeds Daikon Radish

Daikon radishes are nicknamed this because they grow thick, deep taproots that physically penetrate and break up compacted soil layers. This natural process improves aeration and water infiltration without the need for mechanical tilling.

These seeds are specifically designed for fall planting. They establish quickly in cooler temperatures and will grow until the first hard frost, at which point they begin their decomposition process to enrich your soil.

Daikon radishes are annuals and are generally not winter-hardy in most climates. They are intended to die back during the winter, which is actually the goal—as they decompose, they release stored nutrients back into the soil and leave behind channels for spring moisture.

For optimal germination and root development, plant the seeds at a depth of 0.5 inches. This depth provides enough soil coverage to protect the seed while allowing it to emerge easily.

These radishes are quite adaptable and will thrive in either full sun or partial shade. While they prefer full sun for maximum growth, they are versatile enough to work in various garden layouts.

Daikon radishes are very forgiving and tolerate a wide pH range, from 5.5 to 8.5. They are an excellent choice for improving soil health across a variety of different garden environments.
