Bamboo is naturally resistant to sticking, but for the cleanest release, we recommend lightly wetting the inside of the mold with water or a tiny amount of oil before adding your rice. This ensures your rice blocks slide out easily without losing their shape.

The included press is designed specifically for this purpose. After filling the mold with rice, place the press on top and apply firm, even pressure. This compresses the grains together to create the dense, uniform block required for traditional musubi.

While it is specifically sized for Hawaiian-style musubi, you can use it to shape other ingredients like firm tofu, polenta, or even layered sushi rice cakes. Just ensure whatever you are molding is firm enough to hold its shape once the press is removed.
