Indeterminate means the plant will continue to grow, flower, and produce fruit throughout the entire growing season until the first frost. Because they keep growing, you will need to provide sturdy trellising or staking to support the vines.

Unlike red tomatoes, Green Zebra tomatoes don't change color drastically when ripe. Look for the dark green stripes to turn a slightly lighter, yellowish-green hue, and give the fruit a gentle squeeze; it should yield slightly to pressure.

While Green Zebra is an indeterminate variety that can get quite large, you can grow them in containers if you use a large pot—at least 5 to 10 gallons—and provide a strong cage or stake for support. Be prepared to prune the plant regularly to manage its size.

Their tangy, sharp flavor profile makes them a standout in fresh salads, salsas, or sliced into wedges for a vibrant garnish. They are generally too acidic for traditional sweet tomato sauces, but they add a fantastic zing to gazpacho or fresh relishes.

Beyond regular watering and consistent trellising, pruning is key. Removing the suckers—the small shoots that grow in the crotch between the main stem and branches—will improve airflow, reduce disease risk, and help the plant focus its energy on fruit production.
