This plant prefers bright, indirect light to keep its foliage vibrant. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light may cause the distinct mottled pattern to fade.

It has a relatively manageable, moderate growth habit. Because it stays compact and bushy, it is an excellent choice for tabletops or shelves where you don't want the plant to quickly outgrow its space.

The plant arrives in a standard 4-inch plastic nursery pot. While it is perfectly healthy to keep it in this pot for a while, many owners choose to slip it into a decorative cachepot that matches their home decor.

Like most Homalomena, this plant prefers to dry out slightly between waterings. Check the top inch of soil; if it feels dry to the touch, it is time to water, but be careful not to let it sit in standing water.

Homalomena species are generally considered toxic if ingested by cats or dogs. It is best to keep this plant on a high shelf or in a room inaccessible to curious pets.
