Patterson Hybrid is specifically bred for long-term storage. When cured properly and kept in a cool, dry environment, these onions can last well into the winter months, often outperforming traditional storage varieties.

Long-day onions require 14 to 16 hours of daylight to trigger bulb formation. This makes them best suited for northern regions with longer summer days, typically those in USDA zones 3 through 9.

To ensure the bulbs reach their full, uniform size, space your seedlings or sets about 4 to 6 inches apart in rows spaced 12 to 18 inches apart. Adequate spacing prevents overcrowding and encourages better airflow, which is crucial for healthy bulb development.

Onions are heavy feeders that benefit from a balanced approach. A 10-20-10 fertilizer is recommended to provide the necessary nutrients for root and bulb development without encouraging excessive leafy growth at the expense of the bulb.
