While the handle is long, the angled design is specifically engineered to provide better leverage and control. This length is intentional to keep children at a safe distance from the open flame, though younger children may still need adult supervision to steady the weight of the cast iron.

Like most cast iron cookware, this skillet requires seasoning before its first use to prevent sticking and rust. We recommend applying a light coat of oil and heating it over the fire to build up a natural non-stick surface over time.

It is designed for open campfires, but it works perfectly fine over charcoal grills as well. Just ensure your grill setup allows for the long handle to extend safely outside the cooking area.

The handle features a wood grip designed to stay cooler than the metal, but because it is used directly over an open flame, it can still get warm. We recommend using a heat-resistant glove or mitt, especially if the skillet has been over the fire for an extended period.

Avoid using soap, which can strip the seasoning. Instead, wipe it out while warm with a paper towel, or use a small amount of hot water and a stiff brush to remove food residue, then dry it completely and lightly oil it before storing.
