Typha Laxmannii Cattail

Typha laxmannii is a more refined, compact variety compared to common cattails. It features slender foliage and smaller, more graceful catkins, making it a better choice for smaller ponds or water gardens where you want vertical interest without the aggressive spread of larger species.

This plant is versatile. It thrives in shallow water up to 6 inches deep, but it also performs well in consistently moist, rich loamy soil along the pond margin. Ensure the soil stays damp to keep the plant healthy.

Each plant typically spreads between 1.5 and 3 feet via rhizomes. If you are planting multiple, space them accordingly to allow for their natural growth habit without overcrowding your pond edge.

Typha laxmannii is quite hardy, thriving in zones 4 through 11. It is well-adapted to a wide range of climates and should return reliably each year once established.
