This variety thrives in partial shade, meaning it prefers a few hours of direct morning sun followed by filtered light or shade in the afternoon. Too much intense, direct midday sun can scorch the foliage, while complete shade will significantly reduce the number of blooms.

As a Louisiana Iris variety, the Dixie Deb is quite hardy, but its winter survival depends on your specific zone. In colder regions, you may need to sink the pot deeper into the water or move it to a sheltered area to protect the roots from freezing solid.

It benefits from a slow-release aquatic plant fertilizer tablet pushed into the soil once during the early spring growing season. Avoid using standard garden fertilizers, as they can leach into the water and cause unwanted algae blooms.

These irises prefer 'wet feet' rather than deep submersion. Keep the water level just at or slightly above the crown of the plant, typically no more than 2 to 4 inches deep. If the water is too deep, the foliage may struggle to emerge properly.
