The Ritchey-Chrétien design uses two hyperbolic mirrors rather than parabolic ones, which effectively eliminates coma and astigmatism. This results in a much flatter field of view, meaning your stars will remain sharp and round all the way to the edges of your sensor.

The GEM28 is designed for portability and mid-sized payloads. While it is excellent for a 6-inch optical tube and a standard DSLR or dedicated astronomy camera, you should be mindful of your total imaging train weight to ensure the motors maintain precise tracking accuracy.

Like most equatorial GOTO systems, it requires a polar alignment to track accurately, followed by a star alignment procedure. Once you have calibrated the mount to the night sky, the computerized system makes finding and tracking deep-sky objects straightforward and automated.

While the Ritchey-Chrétien design is optimized for imaging, it is perfectly capable of visual observation. The included eyepiece and diagonal allow you to use it as a standard telescope, though keep in mind that the central obstruction of the mirror design can slightly reduce contrast compared to a refractor of the same aperture.

The included tripod provides a solid foundation for general use. However, for long-exposure astrophotography, stability is paramount; ensure the tripod is fully extended on level ground and consider adding weight to the accessory tray to dampen vibrations from wind or minor movements.

The mount requires a standard 12V DC power source. It is highly recommended to use a dedicated portable power tank or a regulated AC-to-DC power adapter to ensure consistent voltage, which prevents tracking errors during long imaging sessions.
