Marsilea mutica is a fern-family member that reproduces via spores. In a pond environment, it will naturally spread through its rhizomes, which creep along the substrate or soil to form new clusters of leaves.

This plant is versatile; its leaves are designed to float gracefully on the water's surface, but it can also grow in shallow, marginal areas where the stems are partially submerged. It creates the best visual effect when allowed to float freely or anchor in shallow margins.

It is a vigorous grower, especially in warm, nutrient-rich water. While it isn't typically classified as aggressively invasive, you should monitor its spread and thin out the rhizomes periodically if it begins to cover too much of your pond surface.
