Kala Style Soap Dish

Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring, highly porous sedimentary rock. Its microscopic structure acts like a sponge, wicking moisture away from the bottom of your soap bar and evaporating it into the air almost instantly.

Because the material is porous, it can absorb pigments from highly colored soaps or oils. While it won't affect performance, you may notice some light discoloration if you use heavily dyed soaps.

Maintenance is simple. Just rinse the dish under running water to clear away any residue and let it air dry completely. If you notice it absorbing water more slowly over time, you can lightly sand the surface with fine-grit sandpaper to refresh its absorbency.

While it works perfectly on a countertop, it is best used in areas with good airflow. If placed in a shower, ensure it is not sitting directly in the path of the water stream, as the material works best when it has a chance to dry out between uses.

The stone has a matte, slightly textured finish that is generally safe for most surfaces. However, if you are concerned about delicate countertops like polished marble, you can easily place a small felt or silicone pad underneath.
