Terracotta is naturally porous, allowing water to seep through the walls of the vessel into the soil. Because the clay responds to the moisture levels in the surrounding dirt, it creates a self-regulating system that releases water only when the soil begins to dry out, preventing overwatering.

These are versatile enough for both. While they are excellent for outdoor raised beds and large containers, they work perfectly for indoor plants as long as your pot is large enough to accommodate the vessel and the root system.

The set includes a soil checker, which is the most reliable way to gauge moisture levels. Additionally, you can simply lift the lid of the olla to check the water level visually; if it looks low, top it off to ensure your plants stay hydrated for the next two weeks.

They are ideal for most thirsty plants, such as tomatoes, peppers, and leafy greens, which benefit from consistent moisture. However, avoid using them for succulents or cacti, which require dry soil cycles and could suffer from root rot with constant hydration.

Over time, minerals from your water can clog the pores of the terracotta. Use the included cleaning pad to gently scrub the exterior surface, and occasionally soak the vessel in a mixture of water and a splash of white vinegar to dissolve any stubborn mineral deposits.
