While it appreciates a humid environment, it is more adaptable than many tropical ferns. It will do well in standard household humidity, though it will certainly appreciate a spot in a bathroom or near a humidifier if your home is particularly dry.

It prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its lush, deep green color. While it can tolerate lower light levels, you may notice slower growth and less vibrant foliage, so a spot near a window with filtered light is ideal.

Check the top inch of soil; if it feels dry to the touch, it is time to water. Because it has creeping rhizomes, avoid letting the soil dry out completely, but be careful not to let it sit in standing water, which can cause root rot.

The Kangaroo Paw Fern (Microsorum diversifolium) is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs. However, it is always a good practice to keep plants out of reach to prevent curious pets from nibbling on the fronds.

You can prune the fronds for aesthetic reasons or to remove any that have turned brown or yellow. Use clean, sharp scissors to snip the stems near the base of the plant, which will encourage new, healthy growth.
