FPP Derev Pan Film

Derev Pan was originally engineered for scientific aerial photography, which gives it a distinct, high-contrast aesthetic. It captures fine detail and texture differently than traditional portrait or landscape films, making it a great choice for experimental or industrial-looking projects.

Because the film base is thinner than standard consumer stocks, it is more susceptible to 'light piping'—where light leaks along the edges of the film strip. You should load and unload your camera in subdued lighting to avoid fogging the edges of your negatives.

It is certainly usable for everyday shooting, but keep in mind that its high-contrast nature is stylized. It excels in situations where you want to emphasize texture and sharp, dramatic lighting rather than soft, tonal portraits.

Derev Pan is a standard black and white film, so it can be processed using conventional black and white chemistry. Always check the FPP website or the film packaging for recommended development times, as they may differ from more common stocks like Tri-X or HP5.

This film is rated at ISO 400, which makes it versatile enough for a variety of lighting conditions. If you are shooting in low light or high-contrast environments, you may want to bracket your shots to see how the emulsion responds to your specific metering style.
