Wooden boards carry more momentum and have a distinct, dampened feel that absorbs chop better than foam. Because of the cedar construction, the board will feel slightly heavier in your hands, but that extra mass translates into incredible drive and speed once you are on the wave.

The Tern is designed as a performance mid-length for waves with a bit more juice, so it is best suited for intermediate to advanced surfers. Its pulled-in outline and pintail are optimized for control in steeper sections rather than the stability required for learning the basics.

The kit provides the raw materials and components, but you will need standard workshop tools such as clamps, sandpaper, a block plane, a rasp, and basic safety gear like gloves and a respirator. Maintenance is similar to a fiberglass board: rinse it with fresh water after every session and keep it out of direct, prolonged sunlight when not in use.
