Surly Ogre Mountain Bike

It is designed to be both. The Ogre is a rigid, all-terrain platform that excels at bikepacking and daily commuting, but it is fully capable of handling singletrack and gravel trails thanks to its durable steel frame and wide tire clearance.

Gnot-Boost is a Surly-specific spacing that allows you to run either 135mm or 142mm quick-release hubs, or 148mm Boost thru-axle hubs. This gives you significantly more flexibility when sourcing wheels or upgrading your drivetrain down the road.

The Ogre relies on its steel frame's natural vibration-damping qualities and its ability to run high-volume tires to smooth out the ride. While it won't absorb big hits like a suspension fork, it offers a direct, predictable feel that many riders prefer for bikepacking and long-distance touring.

The Ogre is built for utility, featuring extensive mounting points for racks, fenders, and cargo cages across the frame and fork. You can easily outfit it for a full bikepacking setup or a heavy-duty grocery run without compromising the bike's stability.

E.D. (Electro-Deposition) coating is an internal and external finish that provides superior rust resistance compared to standard paint. It is particularly valuable if you plan to ride in wet, muddy, or salty conditions, as it significantly extends the lifespan of the steel frame.

The frame is designed to clear 29x2.5-inch tires comfortably. While you might squeeze in slightly wider rubber depending on the rim width and tread pattern, 2.5 inches is the recommended maximum to ensure adequate mud clearance and frame protection.
