The 18-degree flare widens your hand position in the drops, which provides significantly more leverage and stability when navigating technical gravel descents or rough terrain. It creates a more secure, confident platform compared to traditional road bars.

While the internal routing is optimized for electronic shifting setups and is compatible with the Shimano EW-RS910 junction box, it can be challenging to route mechanical housing through these ports. We recommend this bar primarily for electronic or wireless groupsets to ensure the cleanest installation and best performance.

The flattened top section increases the surface area where your palms rest, which helps distribute pressure more evenly across your hands. This design is particularly beneficial on long rides, as it reduces fatigue and provides a more ergonomic grip when climbing or cruising on the tops.

While it is engineered specifically for the demands of gravel and adventure riding, the geometry is versatile enough for road use if you prefer a wider, more stable feel. However, the 18-degree flare is quite pronounced, so it may feel unconventional if you are accustomed to traditional, narrow road bars.

The Ritchey WCS Butano uses a standard 31.8 mm clamp diameter. It is compatible with the vast majority of modern stems currently on the market.
