GoldenEar Technology BRX Reference X

The BRX Reference X utilizes two side-mounted 6.5-inch planar infrasonic radiators. These passive radiators work in tandem with the main driver to extend low-frequency response down to 40 Hz, providing a surprisingly full, tight bass performance that feels much larger than the cabinet size suggests.

These speakers are quite versatile, with a recommended amplification range of 10 to 250 watts per channel. Because they have a sensitivity of 90 dB, they can be driven easily by modest amplifiers, but they have the headroom to handle high-powered setups if you want to push them for critical listening.

They are excellent for both. While they excel at the imaging and clarity required for high-fidelity music, their balanced crossover and wide frequency response make them equally capable as front-channel speakers in a high-end home theater system.

Because the bass radiators are side-mounted, you should avoid placing them directly against a side wall. Giving them a little breathing room—at least a few inches from side boundaries—will ensure the low-end remains tight and clear rather than becoming boomy.

Unlike a traditional dome tweeter that pushes air, the folded ribbon tweeter squeezes air out of its folds. This design allows for faster transient response and greater detail, resulting in highs that are exceptionally crisp and airy without sounding harsh or fatiguing.
