While it is technically possible, we generally advise against using heavy cast iron on glass or ceramic cooktops. The weight and direct heat can potentially scratch or damage the surface, so it is best suited for gas burners, camp stoves, or open fires.

Proper seasoning is the most important step, but you should also ensure the iron is fully preheated before adding batter. Lightly greasing the iron with oil or cooking spray before each waffle will also help ensure a clean release.

The handle is designed for standard camp cooking, but you should always use heat-resistant gloves or mitts when handling it over an open fire. Because the entire unit is cast iron, the handle will get hot during use.

Avoid using soap or putting it in the dishwasher, as this will strip the seasoning. Simply wipe the iron clean while it is still warm, or use a stiff brush and hot water to remove any stuck-on batter, then dry it completely and lightly oil it before storing.
