Chain-Wear Indicator

The gauge features markings for 0.5%, 0.75%, and 1% wear. Generally, if the tool drops into the chain at the 0.5% or 0.75% mark, it is time to replace your chain to avoid wearing out your cassette and chainrings.

This indicator works with most 1/2-inch pitch chains, covering standard derailleur chains from 5-speed up to 12-speed systems. It is a universal tool for the vast majority of modern bicycles.

While a ruler can measure chain elongation, a dedicated gauge like this is significantly faster and more accurate. It is designed specifically to account for the roller wear that actually causes drivetrain damage, removing the guesswork from your maintenance.

This tool is designed primarily for derailleur-style chains. While it may fit some single-speed chains, it is optimized for the specific tolerances of multi-speed drivetrains.

For regular riders, checking your chain every few hundred miles is a good habit. If you ride in wet or muddy conditions frequently, you should check it more often, as grit accelerates wear significantly.
