For the best bond, ensure your surfboard tail is completely clean, dry, and free of any wax residue or oils. Use a wax remover or a light solvent like isopropyl alcohol to wipe the area down before applying the pad, and let it cure for at least 24 hours before your next session.

The cutouts serve two main purposes: they reduce the overall weight of the pad and increase the surface area for your foot to grip. By exposing more of the board's surface, they also provide a slightly more tactile feel underfoot compared to a solid, continuous piece of foam.
