TMC 2488 Hook

The TMC 2488 features a 3X wide gap and a 2X short shank, which gives you a much larger hook opening relative to the hook size. This design is specifically engineered to improve your hook-up ratio on smaller fly patterns where a standard shank might otherwise crowd the gap.

While the fine wire is excellent for delicate presentations and penetrating fish mouths easily, it is not designed for heavy-duty fighting. It is best suited for light tippet applications and smaller species where you need a subtle, natural drift.

This hook is a go-to for small nymphs, midges, and emergers. The curved shank and wide gap make it particularly effective for tying pupa patterns or any fly that requires a compact profile with a generous hook opening.

The straight eye is a versatile choice that works well with most knot types, including the improved clinch knot. It allows the fly to sit naturally in the water column, making it a reliable option for both dry flies and subsurface patterns.

The bronze finish is a classic, non-reflective coating that blends well with natural insect colors. Keep in mind that it is not as corrosion-resistant as stainless steel or black nickel, so it is a good practice to dry your flies after a day on the water to prevent rusting.
