While these skins are engineered for the high-speed demands of competitive skimo racing, they can certainly be used for recreational touring. However, keep in mind that the 100% mohair construction prioritizes glide over durability, so they will wear out faster than a nylon-blend skin if you are doing heavy, daily touring.

Mohair is excellent for glide, but it offers slightly less mechanical grip than nylon on very steep, icy terrain. The Race Crystal is designed for efficiency, so you will need to maintain good technique and consistent pressure on your skis to ensure the fibers engage properly on hardpack.

The tip bungees are designed primarily for race-specific skis with notched tips. If you are using a standard touring ski without a race-style tip notch, you may find the attachment system less secure or incompatible without modification.

The factory-applied waterproof membrane is durable, but it will degrade over time with heavy use. To maintain performance, use a dedicated skin wax or waterproofing spray specifically formulated for mohair skins whenever you notice the fibers starting to absorb water or clump with snow.

The Edge+ material is specifically designed to reinforce the sides of the skin, which is where most fraying occurs during aggressive skinning. It is highly effective at maintaining the integrity of the skin edge, even when you are cutting the skin close to the ski edge for maximum coverage.
