An R-value of 3.1 indicates this pad provides sufficient insulation for three-season use, meaning it will keep you comfortable during spring, summer, and fall. It is designed to prevent the cold ground from sapping your body heat, though it may not be warm enough for deep winter camping.

The pad contains an open-cell foam core that expands and draws air in automatically when you open the valve. While it does most of the work on its own, you will likely need to add a few breaths of air at the end to reach your preferred level of firmness.

At 1 inch thick, this pad offers a stable, cushioned surface, but it is relatively thin compared to air-only pads. If you are a side sleeper who prefers a plush feel, you might find it firmer than expected, though it provides excellent support and prevents you from bottoming out on the ground.
