Tensor Alpine

The Tensor Alpine is designed specifically to avoid that common crinkling noise. It uses floating metallized film layers suspended within the baffles, which eliminates the friction that typically causes that loud, plastic-like sound.

An R-value of 8.5 is exceptionally high, making this pad suitable for extreme cold and winter camping. Most standard three-season pads range from 2 to 4, so this is built specifically to insulate you from frozen ground in sub-zero temperatures.

The Vortex pump sack is highly effective and worth the minimal weight. It allows you to inflate the pad quickly without using your breath, which prevents moisture buildup inside the pad that could freeze or degrade the insulation over time.

With a 3.5-inch thickness, this pad provides significant loft and support. Most side sleepers find this depth more than adequate to prevent their hips or shoulders from bottoming out against the ground.

The pad features a 40D nylon base, which is a robust, puncture-resistant fabric designed to handle rougher terrain. While it is still an inflatable pad that requires care, the bottom layer is significantly tougher than the lightweight 20D top fabric.

The rectangular shape offers more usable surface area, which is a major advantage if you tend to toss and turn or want more room for your arms and legs. While it takes up slightly more space in your pack than a tapered mummy pad, the trade-off is often worth it for the improved comfort during long winter nights.
