These speakers are quite versatile, with a recommended amplifier power range of 30W to 200W into 8 ohms. While they will run on lower power, pairing them with a high-quality amplifier closer to the 200W mark will give you better control over the bass drivers and improved dynamic range.

They are excellent for both. While the 703 S3 is designed with the precision required for high-end two-channel music listening, its three-way design and powerful bass output make it a formidable choice for the front channels in a high-performance home theater system.

The 703 S3 features a rear-firing Flowport, so you should avoid placing them directly against a wall. We recommend leaving at least 12 to 18 inches of clearance from the rear wall to ensure the bass remains tight and controlled rather than boomy.

By housing the tweeter in its own separate, elongated enclosure atop the main cabinet, Bowers & Wilkins isolates it from the vibrations of the larger bass and midrange drivers. This results in a more open, spacious soundstage and significantly clearer high-frequency detail.

For most music listening, the dual 6.5-inch Aerofoil Profile bass cones provide plenty of depth and authority on their own. However, if you are building a dedicated home theater system and want to feel the deepest cinematic low-end effects, adding a subwoofer can still provide that extra layer of impact.

They are relatively straightforward to place, but because they are capable of significant bass output, they benefit from some experimentation. Start by placing them a few feet from the side and rear walls, then adjust the toe-in angle toward your listening position to dial in the imaging and soundstage focus.
