Brooks Bar Tape

While traditional leather is cut from a single hide, this tape uses a blend of leather scraps and natural latex. It offers a similar aesthetic and the ability to develop a unique patina, but with a more consistent texture and a focus on sustainable manufacturing.

At 1.8 mm, this tape is on the thinner side, which provides excellent feedback and control for the rider. If you prefer a highly cushioned feel for long rides, you may want to pair it with a gel underlay, but many riders find the natural grip of the material sufficient on its own.

The tape will naturally darken and soften with exposure to sunlight, oils from your hands, and general use. You don't need to apply special treatments, though keeping it clean with a damp cloth is recommended to maintain its appearance over time.

Because it contains natural latex, the tape offers a reliable grip even when damp. However, like any leather-based product, it is best to avoid prolonged soaking; if it gets caught in a heavy downpour, simply wipe it down and let it air dry completely.

The inclusion of natural latex gives the material a good amount of flexibility, making it easier to wrap around tight bends compared to stiff, traditional leather. Just take your time with the tension to ensure a smooth, overlap-free finish.
